Pointe Coupee General Hospital named as Top Critical Access Hospital

In April of 2014, the 20 highest ranked critical access hospitals (CAH) in three categories were announced by the National Rural Health Association (NRHA). The determining factors for the Top 20 CAHs were based on eight indices of strength including competitive strength, competitive intensity, market size and growth, quality, outcomes, patient perspective, cost and charge and financial stability.

Pointe Coupee General Hospital has been named as a best practice recipient in the key area of the Quality Index. Pointe Coupee General was the only Louisiana hospital recognized in the quality category. "We are extremely proud of this award. Our clinical staff has worked tirelessly to ensure the highest quality is provided at our facility, said Chad Olinde, Hospital Administrator.

Pointe Coupee General obtained Critical Access Hospital Status in 2004 and is currently pursing accreditation from the Joint Commission. "We have really stepped up our quality efforts”, said Elaine Hurme, Assistant Administrator. "Our managers are looking forward to our upcoming joint commission accreditation process and are working to insure all quality indicators are in the excellent range.”

"The National Rural Health Association is committed to ensuring our members have the best information to manage their hospital,” said Brock Slabach, NRHA membership services vice president. "In this era of transparency and accountability, NRHA is pleased to recognize the accomplishment of these hospitals.”
