Harry John Kellerman, MD

Dr. Harry J. Kellerman was a family medicine doctor in New Roads, LA. He received his medical degree from Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans. He was a member of the Pointe Coupee Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society, and the American Academy of Family Practice. He served on the Pointe Coupee General Hospital Board and also, for a time, as Chief of Staff of the hospital.

Known for his dedication to his patients, in the early years of his medical practice he routinely made house calls at the end of his work day and on the weekends. Dr. Kellerman was also known for his wit, sense of humor and passion for working crossword and sudoko puzzles. He was skilled in woodworking and enjoyed refurbishing antique furniture and vintage cars. One of his favorite projects was restoring a 1930 Model A Ford.

Dr. Kellerman was born on February 26, 1935, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. His family moved to New Orleans in 1946, where he spent his adolescent years. He was a resident of Morganza, LA from 1963 to 1996 when he moved to New Roads, LA.

Dr. Kellerman was a graduate of St. Aloysius in New Orleans in 1952, Loyola University School of Pharmacy in 1956, and LSU School of Medicine in 1960. He served as captain in the United States Army from 1961 until 1963.

Following his service in the military he practiced family medicine in Pointe Coupee Parish for 43 years. After retiring from family practice he became Pointe Coupee Parish coroner until his death on March 29, 2021.
