Veterans Monument to Break Ground

On Wednesday, veterans gathered at Pointe Coupee General Hospital to commence the ground breaking on the future home of a veterans monument that will consist of at least 1,000 personalized bricks.

It will have granite stones supporting the Army, the Navy, the Marines, the Air Force, the Coast Guard, and Merchant Marines. Flags for each branch of service and the POW/MIA will be displayed as well as the American Flag.

Pointe Coupee General Hospital and the Pointe Coupee Parish Police Jury approved a portion of the hospital grounds for the American Legion to construct a veterans monument earlier this year. The monument will be paid for by the donations received from the sale of bricks or from personal donations.

This monument is limited to any veteran that has served or is still serving and can be "In honor of” or "In memory of” a veteran in either war time, peace time, or the Cold War or any veterans organization supporting our veterans.

The American Legion Post from Hunter-Fabre Post 248 in New Roads, Doucet-Lewis-Miles-Reno Smith Post 301 in Fordoche, John C. Aguillard Post 560 in New Roads, and Woolfolk-Baker Post 580 in Maringouin will be the contact Posts in Pointe Coupee to obtain additional information about the Monumental Park.

The last day to order a personalized brick will be December 1, 2015. To participate, fill out the brick order form or contact one of the following:
