The skilled rehabilitation programs allows extra time to recover from an illness, injury, or surgery before returning home, or extra time to recover from a stroke or accident, or extra time to receive continued specialized wound care or IV medications.
Examples of why a patient may need skilled are include:
Recovery from a stroke or accident
Extended therapy after joint replacement surgery
Wounds requiring special care
Sleep Disorders Center
Extreme sleepiness during the day is the most common symptom of a condition called Sleep Apnea. Sleep Apnea is a common, yet serious disorder that occurs when breathing stops for 10 seconds or more during a night’s sleep. Certain problems in the airway cause interruptions in breathing during sleep. When the airway narrows, it can result in snoring, periods of no breathing, and frequent arousals in sleep.
Besides feeling very drowsy and waking up at night, other symptoms of Sleep Apnea include:
Loud snoring, choking, or gasping during sleep
Trouble with concentration or memory
Mood changes, depression
In some patients, apnea occurs when the throat muscles and tongue relax during sleep. Sleep Apnea also may be triggered in obese patients when an excess amount of tissue blocks the airway.
Outpatient Wound Care Clinic
Pointe Coupee General Hospital Wound Care Clinic treats patients with non-healing wounds that require an advanced level of care. Internal injuries will also be treated here, including the late effects of radiation, osteomyelitis, and crush injuries.
Dr. Michelle Carley is the physician collaborator of the program. There is a multidisciplinary staff of clinicians and advanced-trained wound care specialists who will work to heal your wounds and assure the best opportunity to heal.
