In late July, a two-day hands-on cooking class where campers learned skills in the kitchen, basic food safety, and how to put a healthy twist on some of our favorite foods took place at Pointe Coupee Homebound Health and Hospice.
June 19, 2019 was the final day for the this summers A-HEC students. They completed three weeks (90 hours) which consisted of a rotation to various departments, classroom work, visits from doctors and community members, and field trips.

Pointe Coupee General Hospital, Arbor Family Health, and Central Louisiana AHEC are hosting a prescription drug take back event on April 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM at the Scott Civic Center. All medications will be accepted at this event. Scheduled medications should be in a container in order to be disposed.
Each year during the month of February is known as American Heart Month. This annual awareness unites millions of people for a common goal: the eradication of heart disease and stroke. Throughout the month, Pointe Coupee General Hospital held multiple initiates to help raise money and support for the American Heart Association.
In the United States, approximately 30 million persons are living with diabetes and 84 million with pre-diabetes according to the CDC. However, type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed through a structured lifestyle change program that promotes weight loss, healthy eating, and increased physical activity.
Think you may be experiencing sleep apnea? Is getting diagnosed with sleep apnea a big deal? Yes, it is! Sleep apnea can be directly linked with life-threatening conditions such as heart attack, stroke, hypertension, diabetes, and excessive daytime sleepiness.
Pointe Coupee General Hospital Wound Care Clinic treats patients with non-healing wounds that require an advanced level of care. Wounds typically treated at the clinic include those that are especially difficult to heal, such as diabetic, venous, and pressure ulcers. Internal injuries will also be treated at the wound clinic, including the late effects of radiation, osteomyelitis, and crush injuries.
On January 12, 2016, Governor John Bel Edwards signed an executive order (JBE 16-01) to begin the process for expanding Medicaid in Louisiana no later than July 1, 2016. Expansion will make Medicaid available to the 300,000 to 450,000 adults living in Louisiana who do not currently qualify for full Medicaid coverage and cannot afford to buy private health insurance.
