The Laboratory Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital plays a major role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases. The Laboratory helps to improve patient care by providing safe onsite testing for a variety of discipline, including blood bank, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, microbiology, parasitology, serology, and urinalysis.

Under the leadership of Lab Manager, Liz Gosserand, M.T. (ASCP), and Assistant Lab Manager, Yvette Major-Garrett, M.T. (ASCP), our accreditations and team of laboratory professionals ensure our commitment to the rigorous laboratory standards for accuracy and reliability. Our laboratory professional team consists of Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Laboratory Assistants, and Phlebotomists.

Our laboratory is staffed 24/7 to meet the needs of the community. The Laboratory not only provides services to our outpatient population, including local nursing home and home health agencies. The Laboratory at Pointe Coupee General Hospital is CLIA certified and remains committed to providing our patients with the utmost standard of care.

The Pointe Coupee General Hospital Emergency Department continually strives to ensure that those seeking emergent treatment receive the best care possible. Currently the department treats over 1000 patients per month. A physician staffs the department 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Licensed nursing personnel assigned to the Emergency Department must be ACLS, PALS and TNCC certified.

The Business Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital consists of a team of seven individuals whose main goal is to ensure accurate and timely billing of patient's accounts. There are three highly trained and knowledgeable medical billers that bill insurance claims to ensure that all patient claims are being satisfied by their insurance carrier.

The Pharmacy Department at Pointe Coupee General Hospital has a critical role in patient care and outcomes. The main focus of the Pharmacy Department is the procurement, dispensing, monitoring and tracking of medications. We supply medications to inpatients, outpatients, emergency room and same day surgery patients.

The Health Information Department is responsible for the security of the electronic and paper medical records. Health Information is also responsible for overseeing the timely processing, completeness, and when necessary, the retrieval of all patient medical records. Health Information has an eight member team, most of whom are cross trained with multiple certifications. Team Leaders Margaret “Maggie” Jarreau, RN, Health Information Manager,. and Dana Beauvais, MA, CCA, Assistant Manager, are very proud of the staff's accomplishments, dedication to service, and professionalism.

Department Spotlight: Dietary

The Dietary Department is also responsible for planning, preparing, and serving a daily noon time meal to staff and visitors. The café menu includes a hot meal and a cold plate. It also includes a variety of salads, desserts, and beverages. The Dietary Department is licensed by the Department of Health and Hospitals and strictly adheres to all local and state food safety requirements.
