Department Spotlight: Emergency Department

 

Nurse, Donna Jarreau, nurse, Traci Achord, Kelli Barker, Megan Kimble, Kari Langlois, and Dr. Mahlon P. Poche in Emergency Department.

 

The Pointe Coupee General Hospital Emergency Department continually strives to ensure that those seeking emergent treatment receive the best care possible. Currently the department treats over 1000 patients per month. A physician staffs the department 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Licensed nursing personnel assigned to the Emergency Department must be ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and TNCC (Trauma Nursing Course Certification) certified.

The department presently offers TeleStroke with other telemedicine options and services pending. All of the nursing documentation is computerized and the medication dispensing system is in keeping with current health delivery trends.

 

Traci Achord, RN, BSN Emergency Room Director

Debbie Bourgoyne, RN, recently retired as the Emergency Department Nursing Director after many years of dedicated service to Pointe Coupee General Hospital. Taking the position as the new nursing director is Traci Achord, RN. Traci received a baccalaureate degree in nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1994. She brings many years of experience and possesses the qualities and leadership needed to manage the emergency services.
